Introducing our Online Student Newspaper

Your life is far from boring. Each and every person at this school has a story to tell, whether you live your life out loud or behind the scenes.

You’re probably wondering why we are writing this. Students have enough to read as it is, and of course, they wouldn’t want to read about things going on at school that they could find on SCPTV or in the Sentinel Scoop. So why is a newspaper different? With this paper, six of your fellow students will be putting their time into sharing your stories in a new way. We all have different stories. What I, as well as the rest of the team, have learned, is that if you ask the right questions, it reveals a deeper side to the students we go to class with every day. The content becomes more interesting and personally relatable.

Our articles will feature a multitude of things, from athletic achievements, arts, activities and interviews about your everyday life. The reality is that Seton has a long history and a growing legacy, a community that is unlike the bigger Catholic schools in our diocese that brings people together. The Sentinels may be small in numbers, but our stories are far from small, or predictable for that matter.

The goal of every newspaper is to help bring us together and appreciate each other more. In the coming months, you or someone you know could be featured in the story. Who in high school wouldn’t benefit from a five-minute break from Instagram?

Of course, it’s only fair that if we share your story, you get to know ours. Here are some things about the team that few people know. The newspaper staff consists of two sophomores, two juniors and two seniors, with Mr. Gutiérrez as our supervisor. One interesting thing is that we have three twins in the class, each from a different grade. There are also two HARDCORE Swifties who try to recruit the rest of us.

With that being said, those are all just surface-level things that anyone who walked into the classroom would notice. Something deeper would be that there is a wide array of fears that we have, like the abominable snowman, pigeons, being afraid, horror movies that are based on true stories, Swifties (you can see the conflict here), the Noid, heights, scorpions and my own personal fear of bees. Just like that, you’ve learned something new. So, trust us with your stories. We might just surprise you a little bit.
