Weekly Update 10-2-2020

Dear Sentinel Community,

Happy feast day of the Holy Guardian Angels! My apologies for not being able to provide a video message for this week. I will return to my weekly video messages next week.

Here are some important reminders and announcements for your consideration:

Next Week’s Schedule (October 5-9, 2020), and Asynchronous Day (October 12, 2020)

I know we are going to have a different schedule next week so please pay close attention to the dates and times below:

Monday: 10/5/20 Periods 1-4 Red Group In-person/Gold Group Online, 8am-3:05pm

Tuesday: 10/6/20 Periods 5-7 Red Group In-person/Gold Group Online, 8am-1:25pm

Wednesday: 10/7/20 Periods 1-4 Gold Group In-person/Red Group Online 8am-3:05pm

Thursday: 10/8/20 Periods 5-7 Gold Group In-person/Red Group Online 8am-1:25pm

Friday: 10/9/20 Educator Day - No Classes

I also want to remind you that Monday, October 12, 2020 will be a special asynchronous online date. Your teachers will let you know during the week when the assignment and materials will be available on Canvas, but keep in mind the assignments are due Monday by 4pm. Communicate with your teachers ahead of time if anything will prevent you from meeting the due date and time.

COVID-19 Update

I want to thank everyone for their attention to our campus mitigation strategies. I have seen a great improvement in our Daily Symptom Checks and everyone is doing a great job wearing their face masks/coverings properly while on campus. We have been fortunate to not have any positive cases on campus and I ask everyone to please continue following our mitigation strategies to help keep our school community safe. Unfortunately there are cases at Chaparral and Cactus Shadows where entire teams needed to be quarantined because of an exposure to COVID-19. Remember that all it takes is one person to start an outbreak on campus and we all want to avoid such a thing from happening.

I will soon announce a target date in October for a transition to a 4-day hybrid schedule, where all students will attend online classes on Monday and attend our in-person block schedule Tuesday through Friday. Students will still have the option of remaining 100% online for the remainder of the semester. This announcement will be early next week and it will contain our target date and information on all the necessary adjustments to our mitigation plan to accommodate this change.

In Memoriam

Those of you who were part of our school community last year remember the unfortunate experience of Ms. Florence Duviau’s untimely death. Madame Duviau was our French teacher and she passed away on October 3, 2019. As we approach the one year anniversary of her death, please pray for her eternal rest, and for her loving family and friends.

I wish you and your family a restful weekend.

Sincerely,

Victor Serna

Principal
