Miscellaneous Electives


Home Repair & Maintenance (10-12) (.5 credit) 

This course will cover the following topics: Wall fasteners of various types, understanding basic electrical wiring, switches, outlets, locksets, drywall/sheetrock repair of small holes, hand sewing, home AC/Heating systems - filter replacement, familiarity with basic hand tools, automotive needs, and basic home plumbing system operation.

These experiences will expose the student some of the routine repairs and maintenance of a house/apartment, car, or 

Through exposure, demonstration and hands-on experiences the student will become a better educated consumer and less dependent on the use of costly service providers (handymen). Students will gain the knowledge of the structure and various systems that need repair and maintenance as opposed to the commonly referred practice of a throw away society.


House Leadership Practicum (11,12) (.5 credit) Fall only. 

This course creates the opportunity for House leaders to plan and advertise House events, therefore, creating more comprehensive, well-planned, and executed House sessions. Students will receive 1:1 coaching sessions with the teacher and other House Leaders to promote their individual leadership skills. Students will gain skills in public speaking, creating positive community relationships, and communication skills. 

Strategies Skills (9, 10, 11, 12) (.5 credit) Prerequisite: ARC/Counselor Recommendation

This course is a 5:1 resource course intended for students with learning disabilities, other health impairments, and/or executive functioning deficits who would benefit from specialized support. Students engage in lessons that develop and reinforce study and organizational skills, promote self-advocacy, student responsibility, and life skills. Students are supported in test preparation, homework support, and assignment completion, grades are frequently monitored by the ARC teachers.

 

Strategies Implementation (10, 11, 12) (.5 credit) Prerequisite: Strategies Skills and ARC/Counselor Recommendation

This course is a 5:1 resource course intended for students with learning disabilities, other health impairments, and/or executive functioning deficits who would benefit from specialized support. Students implement previously learned strategies and are supported in test preparation, homework support, and assignment completion. Grades are frequently monitored by the ARC teachers.


Teacher Assistant (11- 12) (.25 credit; this course may be repeated)
