Return To Play Information

The Seton Catholic athletic department, together with school administrators, have been working closely with the Arizona Interscholastic Athletic Association (AIA), the City of Chandler and the Diocese of Phoenix to provide a safe and effective return-to-athletics plan that prioritizes the health and well-being of our student athletes, coaches and volunteers.

Our plan was developed using benchmark data from the Arizona Department of Health and follows carefully recommended sport specific guidelines and modifications as directed by the AIA and the Diocese of Phoenix.  We have chosen the highest standards of concern for our athletic program because we feel it is our responsibility to the students, staff, volunteers and their families to provide the best possible environment that allows for steady progress while mitigating risk.

Each fall coach was provided a copy of their sport-specific modifications, a list of permitted activities and a kit that included a touch-free infrared thermometer, a COVID log and questionnaire, colored wrist bands to organize cohorts, sanitizing wipes and spray.  Athletes are organized in small groups and stay with their groups throughout the duration of our phase-in, they are not permitted to use the locker room at this point and have any physical contact with other participants.

Athletes and coaches self-screen before practice and/or they are screened by a team selected COVID liaison upon arrival who logs temperatures and asks individual screening questions pertaining to symptoms and exposure. Coaches and athletes must wear a mask while on campus, athletes may remove their masks when they begin practice as long as they remain 6’ apart.  Teams monitor frequent hand washing and sanitizing, and equipment is regularly disinfected.  Extra sanitation-stations have also been placed around the facilities. The school’s facilities and maintenance staff have stepped up their cleaning schedule, following the CDC’s recommended cleaning guidelines which includes extra cleanings and attention to areas frequented by staff and athletes.

It is important that our school community work together to ensure a safe return to sports, and with the cooperation of our student athletes, staff and volunteers we can continue on our journey back to full participation.  As we continue to monitor the situation, we will update our coaching staff and athletes accordingly.  Should we see any slowed progress or concerning data, we will act immediately to keep our students and staff safe.
