Established in 2003, with the first awards presented in 2004, The Seton Catholic Preparatory Hall of Fame Awards are given in recognition of demonstrated commitment to and application of the standards of excellence for which Seton Catholic Preparatory is known.

    • President and CEO of Activision Blizzard Esports, building and leading the team responsible for creating the Call of Duty League and Overwatch League
    • VP of Digital at FOX Sports
    • Directed the growth of FOXSports.com and the creation of FOX Sports Go, oversaw the streaming of thousands of live sporting events, including Super Bowl XLVIII
    • Co-founder and CEO of Yardbarker, sports blog and advertising network acquired by FOX

  • Assistant girls basketball coach, joined the program in the 2008-2009 season
  • During tenure of 9 seasons, Seton won state championships for 7 of them
  • Suffered from cystic fibrosis was an inspiration to girls basketball and Seton as a whole for perseverance and grade and will be remembered for her sacrifices and importance to our program

  • Vice President of Sales for current medical device company receiving many very presitigous awards
  • Received Presidents Club Award 4 times which earned him Olympus Club reserved for top 1%

  • Participated in fundraising with Christian Brothers for much needed gym
  • Financially began wrestling program and funded program through years of its early existence.
  • Wrestling program was first non-traditional sport at Seton; allowed others to follow

  • Represented CPS in civil actions protecting abused and neglected children and prosecuted physicians and other health care providers who engage in conduct harmful to patients

Nicole Hank, Class of 1996
Distinguished Alumnus Hall of Fame

  • Volunteered and worked with organizations that try to find treatments and cures for epilepsy, brain cancer, MS, ALS, Traumatic Brain Injury, Neuropathy, and Myositis
  • Developed a vitamin, Neuro-V, that rejuvenates nerves to help neuropathy patients with pain and suffering

Sister Marie Theresa Rishel, Teacher and Volunteer
Distinguished Service Hall of Fame

  • At various times while at Seton taught Math and Theology, tutored students in Math, and was a substitute teacher
  • Took students to volunteer at Andrew House to work with homeless
  • Became a missionary, worked in Mexico and Guatemala, helping those in orphanages, and teaching religious education
  • Traveled to parishes promoting Missions in China, Ecuador, and Korea

  • Worked with the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) researching thunderstorm initiation and automated forecasting and tracking systems.
  • Weekend meteorologist at CBS affiliate and ABC
    • First meteorologist in southern Colorado to be recognized as a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist by American Meteorological Society
  • Developed Storm Tracker 13 in Colorado Classrooms, 5th grade weather book/curriculum

LeRoy Meister, Voice of the Sentinels
Distinguished Service Hall of Fame

  • Volunteered labor at Seton assisting in construction of gym, installed sprinkler systems, irrigation and infield sod on baseball field, and did general maintenance of baseball fields
  • Public announcer for Seton Football starting in 1996, more than 100 home games and 20 seasons

Meghan Mullin, Class of 2005
Distinguished Athletic Hall of Fame

  • Star softball player, had a high school record of 21-1 and never hit below .415 in a season, won state championship 4 years in a row
  • Won many accolades all 4 years at Seton including All-East Valley 2A-5A Player of the Year, Republic’s small school Player of the Year, and All-State teams
  • Senior Year: .567  batting average; 23 RBIs, .611 on base percentage, 16 stolen bases and 1.02 ERA

Distinguished Service Hall of Fame

  • Started teaching the year of the fire, taught Government, AZ History, Free Enterprise, PE
  • Helped reaching out to feeder schools
  • Was the Dean of Discipline and Athletic Director, Football and Baseball Coach
  • Served on the Board of Trustees

Theodore “Tino” Valenzuela*, Class of 1978
Distinguished Athletic Hall of Fame

  • In football received All-Conference and All-State recognition
  • In baseball won 4 state championships in a row, had only 1 loss in 3 years, and received All-State recognition multiple times

  • Helped found and then, as an alum, mentored our robotics team
  • Earned Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate in Aerospace Engineering
  • Works in University of Maryland’s Space Systems Lab in Neutral Buoyance Research Facility
    • Work on projects including high speed robotic arm to service satellites in space, small satellites that flies around to inspect outside of ISS, underwater robot that gathers ocean floor samples

  • Taught French and English for 22 years
  • Participated in Kairos retreats
  • In addition to teaching was French Club moderator, World Language Department Chair,  and instituted World Languages laboratory
  • Upheld standards of school on Discipline Board
  • Received St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Award in 1999

  • Was Principal for 4 years, first year was the year of the fire, History teacher and school yearbook moderator
  • Added Latin, French, Psychology, and Advanced Mathematics classes
  • Worked to beautify the campus
  • Worked to continue Seton after the fire, ordered portable classrooms so classes could continue
  • Increased enrollment even during the time of the fire from 117-180

Avel Medoza, Class of 1978
Distinguished Athletic Hall of Fame

  • In baseball won 4 State Championships as the starting pitcher, multiple All-State recognition and was the Batting Crown winner twice
  • Was the starting quarterback his junior and senior years and passed over 1200 yards both years

Lisa Wangler Moser, Class of 1998
Distinguished Athletic Hall of Fame

  • Played softball and won 3 state championships, All-Tournament, and her senior year the team was ranked one of the top 50 softball programs in the nation by USA Today Magazine

  • In college, received many recognitions including All-Conference Team, All-American, set Oregon record for single season hits, MVP and Rookie of the Year, Big XII All-Tournament

Sharolyn Thun Hohman, Class of 1963
Distinguished Alumnus Hall of Fame

  • Served as President and CEO of Southwest Valley Chamber of Commerce for 24 years
  • Helped establish one of the country’s largest shelter for domestic violence where 90% of women do not return to the abusive situation
  • Involved civically with many organizations including Southwest Lending Closet which provides medical equipment at no cost, Tri-City Boys’ and Girls’ Club, CTE Advisory Board to the AZ State Board of Education, and Arizona Farm and Ranch Experience
  • Received multiple awards including Soroptimist Rose Award, Lion of the Year in 2004, Phoenix and Maricopa Workforce Connections Super Start in 2002, and Arizona Woman magazine Trendsetter in 1998

Mary Ann Rich
Distinguished Service Hall of Fame

  • Teacher for 25 years at Seton, 37 total working in Catholic education
  • Served as the Foreign Language Department Chair for close to 10 years and initiated the Foreign Language Festival, and was the only Spanish teacher at Seton for 8 years
  • Participated in many Kairos retreats and involved in spiritual formation
  • 1993 Edmund Rice Distinguished Education Award nominee
  • 1997 St. Elizabeth Ann Seton award recipient

Fred Buelna, Class of 1977
Distinguished Athletic Hall of Fame

  • Played football and was selected for All-State team 4 times, was 2 time MVP, two time offensive back of the year, led in rushing, pass receptions, touchdowns and leading scorer for all AIAA
  • Played basketball and was selected for All-State team 3 times
  • Played baseball and was selected for All-State team 4 times, was 3 time team MVP, selected as All-State Baseball MVP Junior year and won 2 state championships
  • Received Fr. McGloin Award for outstanding athlete of the year
  • Also received AIAA Player of the Year award and Chandler Arizonan Newspaper Player of the Year Award

David Walker, Class of 1984
Distinguished Athletic Hall of Fame

  • Played football and selected as All-State in offence, All-State in defense, Runner up in conference at quarterback
  • Played baseball and was conference champions twice, selected as All-State, and pitched 10 innings in the semifinal and final games in the same day to win State Championship junior year
  • Received Fr. McGloin Award for Outstanding senior boy athlete
  • Was the assistant coach with Kevin McCarthy for 2 years after graduation

Nicole G. Harrison, Class of 1988
Distinguished Alumnus Hall of Fame

  • Helped start alumni program at Seton Catholic, dedicating many hours over 4 years (at the time of induction)
  • Served term as chairperson for Alumni Association and Chairperson for Hall of Fame committee, including ensuring that the event continued
  • Played basketball at MCC for 2 years, UofA girls basketball team manager, held multiple Assistant Coach and Head Coach positions
  • Currently works for Phoenix Fire Department, is a Paramedic, and teaches EMT classes at MCC

Dr. Vincent Sheridan, Coach and Teacher
Distinguished Athletic Hall of Fame

  • Taught Social Studies for 4 years, “Felt like God put me in the right place at the right time”
  • 2nd year at Seton became baseball coach, was a part of AIAA B Region, had only 8 players so made a deal with another student to have a full team, finished 2nd place, left Seton with 4 region titles, 3 state titles, and a record of 31-0 over 3 title seasons
  • Became Principal at Gerard until it closed, then became Principal at Our Lady of Mt Carmel before retiring

Steven Turkovich Jr., Coach
Distinguished Service Hall of Fame

  • Coached football, basketball, baseball, started Track and Field and Cross Country
  • Won multiple ASIAC championships, one in football, one in basketball, 2 in baseball, and one in track and field.
  • Became Athletic Director with Fr. Eigel, helped establish a champion attitude with students, treated them each as they all had the potential to do great things

Marcia Burdette-McNulty, Class of 1962
Distinguished Alumnus Hall of Fame

  • 12 year career as teacher at St. Mary Basha, Queen of Peace, Christ the King and a substitute teacher at Seton.
  • Served Iowa Pharmacy Association Board of Trustees, Iowa Heath Systems Pharmacists Board of Trustees, and Ventura Community School Board of Education for 9 years
  • Worked with SBCM Corporation as a consultant pharmacist, worked with 30 nursing homes to assist older adults in finding more affordable medication regimens and monitoring outcomes

Thomas Camptell, Class of 1970
Distinguished Athletic Hall of Fame

  • Stellar Scholar-Athlete, played football basketball, baseball, Track and Field
    • Senior year in football, completed 85 of 156 passes for 1664 yards, 18 touchdowns, rushed for 456 yards, scoring 4 touchdowns and kicked 10 extra points
  • First athlete at Seton to receive a full athletic scholarship to a Division I university, recruited by Notre Dame, Penn State, Stanford, ASU and UofA which he ultimately attended
  • Had a full football career at UofA, played fullback and tight end, became a started his sophomore year, and his senior year beat ASU for the first time in 10 years.

  • Past President of the Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter of National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (Emmy Awards)
  • Received 8 Emmy awards for producing, directing and graphic design (since induction has been inducted into the Silver Circle)
  • 2009 class of Phoenix Business Journal’s “40 Under 40”

Distinguished Service Hall of Fame

  • Taught at Seton, Religion, English, and History and filling in other subject areas that the Sister of Charity needed fulfilled.
  • Helped secure financial donations from the community during Seton’s hard times in order for the school to continue
  • Helped begin a Head Start program for underprivileged children in the community

Jerry Mullin, Teacher and Coach
Distinguished Athletic Hall of Fame

  • Coached at taught at Seton for 24 years (at time of induction) including Director of Counseling
  • Coached at total of 46 seasons in Boys Varsity Basketball, JV Boys Basketball, Cross Country, Track and Field, JV Girls Basetball, Girls Varsity Basketball for 22 seasons
  • As Softball Coach, coached 9 of the 11 State Championships in AIA, 20 teams to AZ State Softball playoffs for 22 years, made it to 16 consecutive state playoffs, a part of the AIA Coaches Association, recognized by AZ Republic and Tribune as Coach of the Year many times, and produced more than 15 players who continue on to play softball at the college level

Brother Tim Smyth
Distinguished Service Hall of Fame

  • Started as Principal in 1983, after the fire when the new campus was being built
  • Under tenure, the mission changed from parish school to help local students to a college preparatory school
  • Taught Physics to ensure students met curriculum requirements

  • Has been on the Diocesan School Board for 20 years
  • President of the Seton School board for 12 years

Ann Meyer-Wheeler, Class of 1964

  • 27 year career as a nurse
    • worked at the Coronary Care unit of St. Joseph’s Hospital and Banner Healthcare
    • taught classes in Critical Care at MCC
    • was an emergency medical technician and certified emergency paramedic
  • Hospice Volunteer
  • Relief Dispatcher for Rim County Rescue
  • Used motto “Be More Human” that can be seen at the top of the Matterhorn in Switzerland with a crucifix

Eduardo Delci, Class of 1969

  • Joined the Peace Corps and worked in Ecuador in a school construction program with Ecuadorian ministry of Education and US Aid Office
  • Coordinated Field Training Program for Latin America Training Center at the University of New Mexico and supervised field training activities for new Peace Corps volunteers serving urban renewal program in Ecuador
  • Director in Administration in Peru until 1971
  • Worked as a probation officer for the State of Arizona
  • Worked at ASU as Associate Director of Minority Recruitment and Retention, creator, initiator, supporter and motivator to many efforts including Faculty advisor especially to Chicano faculty and staff

Ampy Lee Cogswell, Class of 1985

  • Worked for Food for the Hungry International, established office in Hong Kong, raised funds for the poor in China and including orphanage in remote village
  • Volunteered for one year to lead initiative for Food for the Hungry in Philippines and managed a lending program that developed self-sufficient among poor families, and business skills training for women
  • Director of Community Outreach for Louisville Real Estate Company to facilitate homeownership in disadvantaged neighborhood, urban revitalization, helped economically disadvantaged families become first time home owners

John Rodriguez, Class of 1961

  • Army veteran with a career of over 20 years, one of the first war combat veterans during Vietnam Era

Mark and Sylvia (Valdez) Stoll, Class of 1958

  • One of the first Hispanic women to produce and host a weekly television program on KTAR, show ran for 9 years

  • Appointed by President Bush to serve on 3 year commission on Defense Advisory Committee on Women Services
  • Founding board member of Hispanic Alumni of Notre Dame
  • Served as Chairperson of committee planning activities of Diocese of Phoenix and served on board of the Catholic Community Foundation at the invitation of the Bishop

  • First Seton graduate to become a lawyer, practiced for 32 years

Dr. Ernest Lee, Class of 1986

  • Earned MD at University of Texas Medical School at Houston, awarded 2003 Dr. Sun Memorial Award during graduation at Harvard

  • Responsible for the healthcare of 22,000 active duty and civil service employees while in the Navy
  • Founded feeding program for malnourished children in the Philippines

Msgr. John McMahon

  • Pastor of St. Mary's Parish, which was one of the 3 schools of "Tri-City Seton" and was very involved in the activities of Seton
  • Very involved with fundraising for Seton including Cinco de Mayo celebration
  • When Seton rebuilt after the fire coordinated with many to gift what was needed to the school to continue through gifts or helping build

✝ Fr. Joseph Patterson

  • Founder of Seton Catholic
  • Created the school for the Spanish-speaking migrant families in Chandler
  • Started a college scholarship fund for disadvantaged students
  • Dedicated time to children, including those at Seton and had a very large impact

Jim Ryan, Class of 1968

  • Obtained bachelor's degree, summa cum laude, and law degree, with honors, from the University of Maryland.
  • Spent 12 years in the U.S. Intelligence Community, holding successive positions as an intelligence analyst, intelligence team chief, Cryptologic Staff Officer, and attorney for the National Security Agency.
  • Returned to Arizona in 1983, and had a distinguished career as a senior litigation partner with the Phoenix office of a national law firm.
  • Appointed to various leadership positions in the American Bar Association, including Chair of the ABA Section of Litigation's Trial by Jury Task Force.
  • Served the Chandler community in various capacities, including multiple terms as a Director and Officer of the City's Industrial Development Authority, Chair of the City's 2003 Citizens' Bond Committee, and Chair of the City's successful 2004 Bond Election Campaign.
  • Served the Seton Catholic community as Chair of Alumni Fund-raising for the Seton Gymnasium campaign, was twice elected as a member of the Seton Catholic School Board (now, the Advisory Committee), and served several years as School Board President.

John Thornell, Class of 1964

  • Earned degrees at University of Hartford, Salve Regina University, and Doctorate from Columbus University
  • Military career from 1972-1999
  • Founded, developed, and provided direction and guidance for national and international IT companies
  • Works with “Birthday Blessings”, a VA organization that provides birthday wishes for terminally ill children

John Omohundro

  • Took ownership of baseball field to turn an inconsistently maintained field to one of the best in the state using his own large amounts of time
  • Trainer with the Cardinals and used his connections to solicit auction items, equipment and anything else needed at the time
  • Volunteered to help improve football field and softball field
  • Uses resources to move items as needed from Gerard to Seton

Distinguished Alumnus Hall of Fame
The nominees would include graduates who have distinguished themselves in life after their time at Seton Catholic Preparatory.  These accomplishments go above and beyond and should set them above their peers which could include: Lifetime achievements, Significant accomplishments within the community, Significant accomplishment or contribution within in their field.

Distinguished Athletic Hall of Fame
The nominees would include graduates who have who have stood out among their peers and created a lasting legacy in athletics.  This also includes coaches who distinguish themselves through coaching merits, and./or volunteers or staff who have made a lasting impact on the athletics program at Seton.  These accomplishments should often still be significant 10 years after their graduation.  Some examples of accomplishments these exemplary individuals may hold are: Multiple championships, School and/or state records, Significant statistical achievements, All-State and/or All-Region recognition or other era-specific awards, Founding an athletic programs.

Distinguished Service Hall of Fame
The nominees would include graduates of Seton Catholic Preparatory, faculty, staff, volunteers, and/or parents who have made an impact on Seton Catholic Preparatory through outstanding achievement or contributions to Seton Catholic Preparatory as a school or community.  Individuals in this category must have served Seton for a minimum of 4 years.  Some examples of these exemplary individuals are: Staff members who have significantly impacted the growth of Seton, Volunteer/Parent who have sacrificed their own time and demonstrated a significant dedication to Seton Catholic Preparatory, Volunteer/Parent who facilitated the inception and/or continuation of programs or events, Alumni who have returned to Seton and had a significant impact on Seton beyond a career achievement (teacher, etc.).
