Seton Catholic Preparatory's Placement Exam will be held Sat, Jan 7, 2012
Testing begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Seton Catholic cafeteria.
The test you will take is the HSPT, the High School Placement Test. You do not need to register for the test on January 8th, you only need to show up. If necessary, you will need to register for the make-up test on Sat, Jan 21 by calling 480-963-1900 x 2008.
On the day of the test, you will have the option to send your test score to three different High schools.
The reason we have you take the test is to verify that you have a solid eighth grade education, and if not, you may be asked to attend summer school as a condition of admittance. A high score on the placement test does not guarantee your admission. Similarly, a low score does not guarantee that you won’t be accepted for admission to Seton Catholic Preparatory High School.
The best preparation for the test includes the following:
-
Be well-rested and fed on the day of the test.
-
Arrive 10-15 minutes before the exam - the test begins at 8:30 a.m.
-
Bring at least two #2 pencils.
-
Bring a sweater, the rooms are cold at first, and being nervous might make you a little cold.
-
Bring the $35 test fee in the form of a check or money order made payable to Seton Catholic Preparatory High School.
Here are the time allocations for each section:
-
Verbal Skills 60 questions, 16 minutes
-
Quantitative, 52 questions, 30 minutes
-
Reading, 62 questions, 25 minutes
-
Mathematics, 64 questions, 45 minutes
-
Language, 60 questions, 25 minutes
You have a very limited amount of time on each section. Test-takers say that their biggest problem was that they ran out of time.
In order to have the test show your knowledge, you will want to be familiar with the types of questions that will be on the test. This is where practice tests and test preparation guides are useful. Read carefully how the questions are structured.
Devise a strategy so that you bubble your answers correctly, especially when you skip a question. Check often that you are on the right line.
Know how to guess. If you can quickly eliminate one or more of the answers, you increase the odds of making an accurate guess. Wrong answers do not help your score, but you are not penalized extra for guessing.
Good Luck and God bless you.
