ADVANCED PLACEMENT and HONORS COURSES
Students interested in Honors and AP classes need departmental approval to take the class. Approval is based on student’s ability, motivation, and grades. If a student is not successful in an Honors class, they may be removed at the discretion of the teacher and/or the Assistant Principal. Success in an Honors or AP class is determined by department minimum grade expectations of students in those classes.
Advanced Placement Courses are taught to honors students who are recommended for an advanced level course. AP courses allow students to take a College Board test which may give them college credit, dependent upon the test score. AP courses are offered in Art, European History, US History, English, Calculus, French, Latin, and Physics. Seton students also take the AP tests in Government, Spanish, and Psychology.
COLLEGE COURSES
Students occasionally make up or take courses at local community colleges and wish to apply them as requirements or electives at Seton Catholic. A three credit college course is the same as 1/2 credit at Seton Catholic, since the number of classroom hours in a three-credit college course is generally the same number of classroom hours in a semester course at Seton.
One or two college credit courses cannot transfer.
In order to ensure that students are taking courses appropriate to their academic goals, students must obtain permission from the Assistant Principal for Academics to take a college course prior to registering for that course if they wish to apply it as a requirement or elective at Seton Catholic. College courses generally transfer according to the following equation: 70 hours of course work equals 1/2 credit.
