Last month, a cross was installed on the front of our new academic/fine arts classroom building, adding Catholic identity to the structure. Steady progress is being made on the 55,000 sq. ft. building which was started a year ago, March 1, 2010. It will provide much needed classroom space and specialized instruction areas for the fine arts, including a black box theater with seating for 400. Construction is on schedule, with the new building projected to open for the 2011-2012 school year. When completed, enrollment will increase to 700 students.

Exterior stucco application and painting has been completed, and now matches that of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Chapel, located just east of the entrance to the new classroom building. Spanish-style tile has been added to areas of the roof and interior finishing has begun. At this stage, application of drywall and room framing is taking place, as well as, duct work and window installation.

Since July 2010, members of the Seton Catholic Capital Campaign Committee have been hosting hard hat tours of the building for potential major donors and alumni. Tours are conducted by our general contractor, Mr. Thomas Johns of Redden Construction. Participants are given an in-depth view of the state-of-the-art construction techniques being used and have the opportunity to ask questions.

In July 2010, a $6.75 million tax-exempt bond was secured through the Maricopa County Industrial Development Authority and Compass Bank. These funds will pay for the building construction, parking, a central plant and site work. However, in order to begin holding classes in the new facility, an additional $2 million in cash is needed by June 30, 2011, to purchase furnishings and equipment for classrooms and to service the school’s bond obligations.
